We had a clan gathering yesterday.
For the first course, we had Beijing Duck but with only 12 pieces for 15 guests, some of the kids missed out. The dumb waitress didn't ask if we wanted another 1/2 duck. For the second course, we had the duck meat stirfried with broccoli.
We had 2 mud crabs with garlic butter sauce on a platter of panfried rice vermicelli. This is the best dish.
We also ordered lemon chicken, diced beef with honey walnut, pork spare ribs with Chinese vinergar sauce, Shangtung chicken (whole chicken), salted fish chicken fried rice 2x1 1/2 serves, salt and pepper squid. After asking a few times, we had red bean soup for our dessert.

Wangfu Family Kitchen at Eastwood
Zenya was closed today. Is it because it is a public holiay (Elizabeth's Day) or because it is a Monday? We walked past a few restaurants on the way to have our ramen so we were forced to try a new place. I am not crazy about soupy dishes including hot pots nor barbecued meat (due to the smoky ambience). We walked past Home Restaurant which was packed and I refused to queue up.
So we went to Wangfu Family Kitchen. I fancied the stewed pork leg shown in the front of the restaurant. When we walked in, only 2 tables were occupied. Hence, we felt that we might be let down. But by the time our first order arrived, the seats were filling up fast. And by the time we finished, it had gone through a few tables (replenished with new customers) and not a single Caucasian was in sight.
Tonight, we had tofu with salted egg. The flavour is not as intense as the Beverley Hill restaurant but it was acceptable. Next Mrs Tey ordered gowgee, both panfried and steamed. It was nice but the skin (only) is not as nice as Shanghai Restaurant in Eastwood. This was followed by the best dish in this place; nearly every table ordered it. That is the stewed pork leg. At $26.80, it felt pricey but it was a big serve and the meat was succulent and tender and the skin was not too fatty.
Our next dish was deep fried yellow fish with sweet and tomato sauce. I liked it but we were pretty full by the time it arrived.
For dessert, we had a warm dish, made with glutinous rice, pumpkin, Chinese dates and something whitish. It does not meet with Mrs Tey's taste but I thought it was okay.

Maharaja Haveli at Quakers' Hill
The Chowdharys invited us, along with Heidi and Paul Cordato. Phil C was late, got lost. He does not have a SatNav and can't read his directory without his glasses.
The restaurant is huge with a sweet section, a cafe and the restaurant proper. The service is lacking and the waiters/waitresses don't seem to comprehend requests.
But the food is very good. We had spicy dry fish and a prawn dish for entree. For mains, Kulwant ordered chicken briyani, fish curry (?Goan), sarg (spinach with paneer) and chicken curry.

Choptsticks at Harris Park
We were expected the worst at this Indian Chinese restaurant. Service was indeed slow so luckily we ate before 1800h on Sunday.
We had Schewan (sic) fried rice with chicken which was like nasi goreng. Tasty
The 'dry' fish on sizzling hot plate was good too.
The prawn masala has tamarind in it and was nice, too.
The battered mushroom with pepper, an entree, was served with the mains at my request.
We all loved the dry gobi manchuria. A sauce would have dampened the crispiness of the batter. It is not as good Woodlands' version but it was still delicious.
The cook and owner is Tibetan!
With Eunice's mango lassi, the bill came to under $66.
Next time, we will try the spicy eggplant.

Golden Kingdom
We had a dinner with Chris and Fran, and Eunice. The owner was supposed to have changed and the food has deteriorated. Not true. It was still good and cheap.
The Peking duck on Wed to Fri is under $30!
We had salted fish fried rice, shangtong chicken, Peking shredded beef, duck with taro and pipa tofu. Very nice and cheap and good service.
We note that mud crab is under $30 per lb.
